Quilting 101
Want to learn to quilt but have no idea where to start?
(We can even help you find the perfect beginner sewing machine to start you on your journey, if needed!)
Come join Terri B. for our all NEW expanded Beginning Quilt Class! Use a layer cake to complete your first quilt in this very fun class. You will learn all the basics of quilting, beginning with how to use a rotary cutter, sewing basic quilt blocks, basic free motion quilting, and ending with binding a quilt.
The class will meet every two weeks, adding on to previous skills learned with each class.
LESSON 1:
Using the rotary cutter, chain piecing, squaring a block, rail fence block, square dance block.
LESSON 2:
Nesting seams, four-patch block, nine-patch block.
LESSON 3:
Half square triangles, friendship star block, flying geese block.
LESSON 4:
Log cabin block, basics of free motion doodling.
LESSON 5:
Free motion quilting.
LESSON 6:
Binding your free motion sampler.
Supplies needed:
Sewing machine in good working order, thread, scissors, pins, seam ripper, rotary cutter, ruler
Fabric requirements: You can choose your fabric the first day of class if you want :)
Highly recommended: Start Quilting with Alex Anderson book.
1 - layer cake (10" squares) of coordinating fabrics
100% cotton thread
RECOMMENDED:
8 1/2" or 12 1/2" Square Ruler
Rotary Cutter
1/2 yard Muslin (for free motion quilting practice)
Free Motion (Darning - Hopping foot)
