National Serger Month Serge-A-Thon at First Stitches
 
Canon City, CO  — April 5, 2017 - April is National Serger Month!  First Stitches Quilt Shop at 212 S. 4th St. in Cañon City, CO will be participating in the 5th Annual National Baby Lock Serge-A-Thon, April 29, 2017!  The Serge-A-Thon supports the American Patchwork & Quilting’s (APQ) Million Pillowcase Challenge, creating pillowcases that will be donated to local charities.
 
First Stitches will donate all the pillowcases created on April 29th to Loaves and Fishes Ministry of Fremont County in Cañon City.  Loaves and Fishes provides assistance to individuals and families who need help overcoming day to day obstacles allowing them to break the cycle of poverty, addiction, or abuse in their lives.
 
Join us for the fun on Saturday, April 29th at First Stitches in Cañon City, where you will be able to utilize one of our many easy-to-use Baby Lock Sergers. No serging experience is necessary, just a desire to help a local charity and enjoy a great time. Snacks and refreshments will be served.
 
Also, during the Serge-A-Thon on April 29th, participants will be able to enter to win one of three Baby Lock Ovation Sergers.

National Educator Coming to Cañon City

Cañon City, CO – January 1, 2017 — Irene Huffman, a national educator for Westalee Templates and Rulers will be teaching an all-day event called “Quilting with Templates, a.k.a. Ruler Work”.  The event is being hosted at First Stitches Sewing and Quilt Shop, 212 S. 4th Street, Cañon City, Colorado, Saturday, January 21, 2016.

Rulers and templates have become the most popular form of free motion quilting for at-home sewing machines.  The ruler foot opens up a creative side by enabling quilters to stitch with the guidance of templates, and produce a wide variety of designs normally reserved for the longarm machine quilters.

Beginners to advance sewists, who want to develop a new technique for machine quilting their own quilts, are encouraged to attend.  The event cost is $49 and lunch is provided. Participants must also purchase a ruler foot kit, that includes one template for an additional $55.

Nationally-Known Embroidery Educator

Coming to Cañon City

Cañon City, CO – September 6, 2016 — Nicci Brazzell, a professional embroidery artist and textile designer is coming to Cañon City, September 30^th and October 1^st for a 2-day, hands-on machine embroidery event.

The Southern Colorado Embroidery Extravaganza will be held at the Brookside Community Center, and is being hosted by First Stitches Sewing and Quilt Shop.

Ms. Brazzell has taught at international machine conventions and has been published in many industry magazines. She also teaches for the popular “Sew at Home” online sewing and embroidery instructional series.
